Catalino Rico Nuevo was the grandfather of Juanan 'Rico Nuevo'. Their nickname has been with them for four generations, the same ones that have been taking care of the Grenache vines from which their grapes are born. His great-grandfather, Felipe "Rico Nuevo," was a farmer, cattle rancher, and a great wine producer. He made more than 2000 arrobas of wine (>30,000kgs) for family consumption and sale in the town of Burgohondo.
Their project seeks to transmit through their wines the marked character of this land. The way of doing and thinking of the individuals who have worked on it. From their work in the vineyard, to the last drop that goes into the bottle. Their passion transforms into an obsession with quality and the desire to bring the landscape to the glass. To turn the wines into a faithful reflection of their environment, to find in each sip the delicacy that only granite soils and old vines give to Grenache.
Grenache from El Sotillo's Paraje. This Blanc de Noirs is the first vintage. Harvesting begins early. White flowers, jasmine, lemon, apple, and lychee are among the notes. It has not been filtered or clarified.
Baker turned winemaker tending to his great-grandfather’s vineyards in Sierra de Gredos. Technically a blanc de noirs (white wine from red grapes), Garnacha that Juanan pressed lightly and quickly, highlighting its mineral, floral, and herbal sides. Fine balance of acidity to fruit, umami.
