Producer: Weingut Donnhoff
Region: Nahe, Germany
Grape Varieties: Riesling
The Dönnhoff family has been in the Nahe region for more than 250 years. Today the Helmut and his son Cornelius run the sustainable wine estate. The German-language wine and lifestyle magazine Falstaff says, "In the nose sweet honeydew melon, peach, ripe lemons. On the palate beautiful acidity, which counteracts the noticeable residual sweetness. Juicy fruit, extract and light slate spice."
That terroir is, of course, key. The Nahe has the most varied soils (including, especially, different kinds of volcanic soil) of any German region, as well as a climate that ranges from very cold high-elevation sites to pockets of Mediterranean warmth. This gives Dönnhoff a painter’s palette of flavors and textures from which to craft a perfect wine.
