Frédéric Dorthe runs his family's 20ha of vineyards located on the right bank of the Rhône River in the picturesque town of Saint-Marcel d'Ardèche. Due to long-standing contracts to sell most of his fruit, Fred's domaine has flown under the radar for a long time. On the bright side, this allows him to make small amounts of honest, highly-drinkable wines from Southern Rhône grapes fermented and aged in cement with no additions except a small amount of SO2 at bottling, and sell them for a song.

Vines are 40years old, planted on sandy clay soils. Vines are trained in gobelet or cordon de Royat. Total land under vine is 30ha, but only 4ha are used for the Domaine du Chapitre wines.
