This blended rose is based primarily on the cold-hardy grape cayuga white which dates back to 1945. A cross between seyve-villard (seyval) and schuyler - which is itself a cross between zinfandel and Ontario zinfandel - cayuga white is planted throughout the Finger Lakes and is a relatively reliable producer and also an exceptional wine grape. The blush of red and subtle berry flavors come from a splash of noiret - a deeply colored, high acid, pepper-scented hybrid grape.
